Lucy Kelly, The Voice From ParadiseLucy Kelly, Y Llais o Baradwys

Lucy comes from a beautiful part of Anglesey called Paradwys – the Welsh word for Paradise! The description “voice from Paradise” is therefore not a meaningless phrase conjured up by a PR agency, but a statement of fact which anyone listening to this recording will appreciate has a deeper significance. This, her first album, was released in 2009 when Lucy was just eleven years old, and on her first year at Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni.

From a very early age, she has derived much pleasure from singing and performing, and she first appeared on the stage of The National Urdd Eisteddfod when only six years old. That was the start of a very successful eisteddfodic career which has seen her winning many first prizes on the national level, and this has led to a busy concert schedule as well. She has appeared on several TV programmes, and is a member of the acclaimed Ysgol Glanaethwy Youth Choir. She travels a hundred miles round trip to Prion, near Denbigh, every week for voice and singing tuition by the well-known folk singer Leah Owen.

Her love of music encompasses many genres : folk songs, classical solos and the traditional Welsh form of singing to harp accompaniment, Cerdd Dant. While recording this album, she was also preparing with Leah her repertoire for her first appearance on the stage of London’s Albert Hall at the Male Choir Festival, one of the youngest ever to perform as a soloist in that prestigious venue. Her mature voice and excellent technique, combined with a bubbly personality and endearing character, will ensure that Lucy Kelly is a name we will hear a lot about in the future, and we know that this her debut album will be very well received by all lovers of fine singing.

Daw Lucy Kelly o ardal hyfryd yn Ynys Môn o’r enw Paradwys; nid creadigaeth ddi-ystyr rhyw asiantaeth hysbysebu mo’r disgrifiad “y llais o Baradwys” felly, ond datganiad o ffaith, a ffaith sy’n llawn arwyddocad, fel y daw’n amlwg i unrhywun sy’n gwrando ar y recordiad hwn. Cyhoeddwyd yr albwm yma pan mae Lucy’n unarddeg oed ac ar ei blwyddyn gyntaf yn Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni, ac ers yn ifanc iawn mae wedi bod wrth ei bodd yn canu a pherfformio.

Yn wir, cyrhaeddodd lwyfan Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Urdd y tro cyntaf pan nad oedd ond 6 oed, ac ers hynny cafodd yrfa eisteddfodol ryfeddol o lwyddiannus, gan ennill droeon yn ein Gwyliau Cenedlaethol. Wedi ymddangos ar sawl rhaglen deledu, bu’n canu gyda Hogia’r Wyddfa ar lwyfan y Noson Lawen. Mae’n aelod o Gôr Iau Ysgol Glanaethwy ac y mae gofyn mawr amdani mewn cyngherddau ledled y wlad. Teithia o Baradwys i bentref Prion ger Dinbych yn wythnosol i gael hyfforddiant canu gan y gantores Leah Owen, ac y mae’n mwynhau dysgu pob math o ganeuon, boed yn glasurol, yn ganeuon gwerin neu Gerdd Dant. Wrth baratoi’r recordiad hwn, roedd Lucy hefyd yn gweithio gyda Leah ar ganeuon ar gyfer ei hymddangosiad yng Ngwyl y Corau Meibion yn Neuadd Albert Llundain, un o’r ieuengaf erioed i ganu ar y llwyfan byd-enwog hwnnw. Gyda’r fath lais aeddfed, ei phersonoliaeth fyrlymus a’i chymeriad hoffus, mae Lucy Kelly yn sicr yn ferch ifanc y clywn lawer amdani yn y dyfodol, a gwyddom y bydd croeso mawr i’r CD gyntaf hon o’i heiddo.
