A melting pot of styles and glorious songs, multi-instrumentalist Huw M’s debut album Os Mewn Sŵn (If in Sound), released on the Gwymon Label, has been described as an ‘infectious, irresistible slice of pop loveliness’ by Buzz magazine, and his music has received rave reviews by BBC 6 Music Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone, amongst others.
Huw M is Huw Meredydd Roberts, an artist who takes his craft seriously. Influenced by music from both France and Brazil, Huw brings together a myriad of instruments, including the banjo, ukulele, sitar and Maui Xaphoon to create his unique blend of folk pop and electronic sounds.
Os Mewn Sŵn introduces you to a showcase of original and traditional tracks. There are numerous highlights to this release, one of which is a new version of the beautiful Michelle Michelle, which was originally released to raise money for the Wales Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign, with his friend Llwyd (Erddin Llwyd). Huw M’s initial inspiration comes from everyday things – the sock drawer, the smell of food in the kitchen, missing the train or a dripping tap.
Huw said, “One of my favourite tracks is Y Drôr Sy'n Dal y Sanau (The sock drawer), a track that deals with our habits and practices, things that are part of our daily routine, things we don’t even notice. I also really like the cello by Lucello (the amazing artist Lucy O'Connor) – it’s adds so much to the song, and I feel a French influence on the sound.”
Huw has also received an award for the 2009 Best Solo Artist in the Welsh music magazine Y Selar. The album was recorded with Frank Naughton in Tŷ Drwg studios, and the distinctive artwork is by the talented !!Arth!! (aka Aled Cummins).

Wedi’i ddisgrifio fel ‘Prydferthwch syfrdanol’ gan BBC 6 Music Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone ac fel ‘sleisen heintus ac anorchfygol o bop prydferth’ gan gylchgrawn Buzz, rowch groeso i gerddoriaeth yr artist aml-offerynol Huw M, a'i albwm gyntaf Os Mewn Sŵn, ar label Gwymon.
Huw Meredydd Roberts yw Huw M. Mae’n artist sy’n cymryd ei grefft o ddifri, gan lyncu dylanwadau o Ffrainc a Brasil a'u cymysgu gyda geiriau a melodïau. Gyda dylanwadau acwstig, ychydig o synau electronig, dipyn o fanjo, ukulele ac offerynnau gwych a gwallgof y sitar a’r Maui Xaphoon, cewch glywed cymysgedd o ganeuon gwreiddiol ac ambell i gân draddodiadol ar Os Mewn Sŵn.
Mae nifer o uchafbwyntiau i’r albwm gan gynnwys fersiwn newydd o Michelle Michelle, a gafodd ei ryddhau’n wreiddiol ar sengl i godi arian i Ymgyrch Gefnogi Nicaragua Cymru gyda’i gyfaill Llwyd (Erddin Llwyd). Mae ysbrydoliaeth cychwynnol Huw M yn dod o bethau pob dydd - droriau sanau yn y tŷ, oglau bwyd yn y gegin, colli'r trên neu dap dwr sy'n gollwng.
Dywedodd Huw, “Un o fy hoff ganeuon ydy Y Drôr Sy'n Dal y Sanau, trac sy'n trafod ein harferion a habits - pethe 'da ni gyd yn gwneud bob dydd fel rhan o'n trefn ddyddiol, heb sylwi bron. Dwi hefyd yn hoff iawn o waith cello Lucello ar y trac (sef y cerddor arbennig Lucy O'Connor) - mae'n ychwanegu gymaint i sain y gân, a dwi'n meddwl fod yna rhywbeth Ffrengig am y sain.”
