Ten years have gone by since Côr Gore Glas, from the Machynlleth area of Montgomeryshire in mid Wales, recorded their first album to celebrate their fifth anniversary as a choir. In 2005 another young choir emerged in the Dyfi Valley, under the name of Côr Aelwyd Bro Ddyfi, and in 2011 both choirs joined forces for a special concert in Aberystwyth with artists of the calibre of Bryn Terfel, Gwawr Edwards, Annette Bryn Parri, Rhys Taylor and Nia Roberts. The concert raised over £12,000 for charities. The following year, that concert was recreated in Machynlleth, this time with soloists from within the choirs themselves, and once again they received rapturous ovations.
This CD captures the essence of these concerts. Côr Gore Glas has long earned its reputation as a choir whose singing is full of exuberance, and Côr Aelwyd Bro Ddyfi is rapidly gaining a similar reputation, winning both the mixed and male competitions in their first ever Urdd National Eisteddfod in Cardiff in 2005. This marked the beginning of a four year successful period whilst the members were still young enough to compete at the Urdd Eisteddfod! Since then, their concert appearances have escalated, and they are renowned for their enthusiasm and love of music. By combining the strengths of both choirs, that enthusiasm is certainly conveyed in this powerful and enjoyable collection of songs.
