A third collection by Maharishi.
With "Keep your ear to the ground", Maharishi attempt to finally shake off the tag of John Morris Jones House Band, which has dogged them since their formation. The band has enlisted the talents of former Catatonia and Cyrff guitarist Marc Roberts for production duties.
It appears that when Maharishi formed at the tail end of the 1990s, they made a Faustianpact with the spirit of Britpop to follow the Noel Gallagher songbook blueprint for success to the absolute letter. The main problem with this appears to be that while 60s-influenced guitar pop may have gone down a storm at the Student Union Clwb Cymraeg, the music world outside the protective bubble of university halls of residence and the Globe Pub has changed.
"Keep your ear to the Ground" does have some great moments including the wistful opening Bottle Shop Jobs and the backwards guitar solo on Di-Deitl which is reminiscent of the Beatles finest hour Revolver.
