Ar Log, The Best ofAr Log, Goreuon

“Ar Log, I remeber meeting you in Lorient as if it were yesterday, and I’m glad you took my advice and stayed together as a band” John Sheahan, Dubliners.

“Thank you Ar Log for flying the flag for Wales across the world. And thanks for looking after me in Canada when I was lonely and feeling down” Dan Ar Braz, Brittany.

“Ar Log is one of the most durable and best-loved Welsh folk groups. The band’s extraordinary level of musicianship, manly and sensitive Welsh language vocals, and spirited clog dancing can all be experienced on their recordings. Although there are many superb musicians in Wales, any exploration of the region’s music should start with, or at least include, a selection of Ar Log’s recordings” Christiana Roden, music journalist, New York.

Ar Log was formed in August 1976 specifically to represent Wales at a Celtic Festival in Lorient, Brittany. Following the festival, on the advice of The Dubliners, the band decided to continue to perform and earn their living through touring. The band succeeded in touring full time for seven years, spending nine months of each year abroad.

The band has performed in twenty one countries accross the UK, Europe and North and South America promoting Welsh traditional music and songs. Between 1978 and 1996 Ar Log managed to release ten albums and two singles, and this doulble CD contains the very best of the eponymous series Ar Log I – Ar Log VI plus one bonus track recorded live in Germany.

Ffurfiwyd Ar Log yn Awst 1976 yn arbennig ar gyfer perfformio mewn gwyl yn Lorient, Llydaw. Yn dilyn yr wyl, penderfynwyd, ar anogaeth y Dubliners, i barhau, ac i geisio ennill eu bywoliaeth yn teithio. Llwyddwyd i wneud hyn am saith mlynedd gan deithio dramor yn rheolaidd am naw mis o bob blwyddyn. Maent wedi perfformio mewn un-ar-hugain o wledydd ar draws Ynysoedd Prydain, Ewrop a Gogledd a De America gan hyrwyddo cerddoriaeth a chaneuon Cymru.

Rhwng 1978 a 1996 llwyddodd Ar Log i ryddhau deg albwm a dwy sengl, ac mae’r CD ddwbl hon yn cynnwys 41 o’r goreuon o’r gyfres eponymaidd Ar Log I - Ar Log VI, gydag un trac bonws ‘byw’.

“Ar Log, rwy’n cofio cyfarfod â chi yn Lorient fel ‘tae ddoe, ac rwy’n falch i chi dderbyn fy nghyngor a pharhau fel band.” John Sheahan, Dubliners

“Diolch Ar Log, am chwifio baner Cymru ar draws y byd. A diolch yn arbennig am ofalu amdanaf yng Nghanada pan oeddwn i’n unig ac yn teimlo’n isel.” Dan Ar Braz

“Am flynyddoedd o roi ynni yng ngweithiennau cerddoriaeth draddodiadol Cymru a gweithredu fel llysgenhadon blaenaf drosti mewn sawl congl o’r byd, canmil diolch. Mae’r genedl yn fawr ei dyled ichi” Y Dr. Meredydd Evans
