9Bach

After fans received a taste of the new album with their recent singles C’weiriwch fy Ngwely and Yr Eneth Gadd ei Gwrthod, GWYMON is proud to announce 9Bach, their self titled debut album.

Recorded at the Wings For Jesus studio in Cardiff, the album is co-produced by 9Bach and Kris Jenkins and engineered by Sir Doufus Styles. An intense and emotional journey from dark mood to euphoric high the album gives a fresh twist on traditional folk songs. Since Lisa Jen Brown and her husband Martin Hoyland established 9bach, the band have become recognised for composing new arrangements for traditional Welsh folk songs, bringing colour and life to the stories and making them accessible to a contemporary audience.

The album showcase’s ten tracks which express emotion, passion and sentiment through the music while still giving space for Lisa’s new approach and delivery of stunning vocal melodies. Lisa said, “the instruments aren’t fiddly or complex, but compliment what’s already there.” What makes the album so interesting and absorbing is that 9Bach have taken traditional folk instruments and techniques (Harp, Harmonium, Cello, Vocal harmonies, and percussion) and put them into a standard rock line up (Drums, Bass, Electric Guitar and Fender Rhodes) Lisa said, “There’s a lot of contradictions on the album, often creating a clash between the lyrics and the music which works very well.” These opposites put together create an album that is dark, intense, and full of tensions, yet manages to accentuate the stunning and beautiful melodies.

Since the early days of the married duet, 9Bach has developed its sound with the introduction of new members with Esyllt Glyn Jones on harp, Ali Byworth on drums and Dan Swain on bass guitar.

Wedi’r tamaid i aros pryd gyda C’weiriwch fy Ngwely a Yr Eneth Gadd ei Gwrthod mae GWYMON yn falch i gyhoeddi albym gyfan gyntaf 9Bach (o’r un enw).

Wedi’i recordio yn stiwdio Wings for Jesus yng Nghaerdydd, cyd-gynhyrchwyd yr albym gan 9Bach a Kris Jenkins; y peiriannydd oedd Sir Doufus Styles. Mae’r casgliad yn hedfan o dywyllwch i’r uchelfannau ac yn rhoi gwedd newydd ar ganeuon traddodiadol.

Ers i Lisa Jen Brown a’i phriod Martin Hoyland greu 9Bach, maen nhw wedi sefydlu eu hunain fel band sy’n rhoi bywyd a lliw newydd i alawon a chaneuon gwerin Cymru, a’u dwyn i sylw cynulleidfa gyfoes newydd. Ceir 10 trac ar yr albym sy’n mynegi emosiwn, sentiment ac angerdd ac sydd eto’n caniatau i Lisa ryddid i gyfleu’r alawon yn ei dull arbennig ei hun.

Meddai Lisa : “Does dim yn gymhleth yn yr offerynnau, ond maen nhw’n ategu’r hyn sydd yn yr alawon yn barod”. Beth sy’n gwneud yr albym mor ddiddorol yw fod 9Bach wedi defnyddio offerynnau a thechnegau traddodiadol (telyn, harmoniwm, sielo, offer taro a chynghanedd lleisiol) a’u gosod mewn cyd-destun roc safonol (dryms, bas, gitar drydan a Fender Rhodes) “Mae llawer o wrthebion ar yr albym”, meddai Lisa eto, “ sy’n creu gwrthdaro rhwng y geiriau a’r gerddoriaeth, ac y mae hynny’n gweithio’n dda.” Mae’r gwrthebion hyn yn creu albym sy’n dywyll, yn ddwys, yn llawn tyndra, ac sydd er hynny’n pwysleisio prydferthwch eithriadol yr alawon.

Mae Lisa a Martin wedi ychwanegu aelodau eraill atyn nhw i ddatblygu’r SAIN o’r cychwyn, ac yma clywir Esyllt Glyn Jones ar y delyn, Ali Byworth ar y dryms a Dan Swain ar y gitar fâs.
